In all of my time blogging I have never really written any goals posts so this is a first. While I would like to be on top of it enough to do monthly or even quarterly goals I figure I can do touch bases instead on the goals I want to accomplish for the year.
Me:
- Riding
- Take lessons 2x a week ideally (at least 1x/week or 4x/month)
- Learn how to do hunter braids
- Jump around 3’6 course confidently
- Show over 3′ (if a lease is available to do so)
- Quieter seat and upper body
- Be more positive about progress
- Track horse spending (board, farrier, vet, lessons, shopping, etc)
- HAVE FUN!
- Personal
- Workout 2x a week (outside of the saddle)
- Eat out less / do better at meal planning
- Lose 20lbs throughout the year (weekly weigh ins – #goalbreeches)
- Read at least 1 book a month
- Teach her leg yields/ shoulder fore
- Smoother transitions
- Practice controlled lead changes
- Jump 2′ courses
- Go to at least 2 schooling shows
- Go trail riding off property at least 1x
- Self load/unload on trailer
- Tie to trailer
- Improve Ground Manners
- Increase patience with farrier
- Crosstie trustworthiness
- Keep things fun!
I think that these goals should keep us quite busy for the year. After this weekend I think that some of them are more stretch goals than others but many should be very attainable with consistent work!
Do any of you guys have similar goals? Any tips for keeping on track?
These are great goals! I think self loading is an especially good one and I may add it to Nibbles’ list. Also, #goalbreeches yessss<3
#goalbreeches for the win!
We sound like we have the same goals!
I love the Mint app for tracking my spending/cringing at my finances.Cooking Light crockpot meals have been a lifesaver for me as far as meal planning goes.
Send some workout motivation my way!
I used to use mint but I started to get annoyed by it. I mostly just want a sheet to keep track of all horse expenses so I can report back at the end of the year.
great goals! also getting my mare self loading was maybe one of the single most rewarding things ever – i’m constantly grateful for when she just hops right in!
Annie is a good loader so far but she gets really frazzled backing off. Any tips are appreciated 😉
I’ve never done goals in the past, but maybe I should. I think you have some great ones!
I really liked the process of coming up with them. I guess I have always had basic goals but it was nice to set some more concrete things to work on.
These are great goals! And girl, I am with you on the #goalbreeches! I am an obsessive meal planner- I utilize Pinterest for organizing what I’m going to eat. I create a board every week (e.g. “Meal Plan Week of 01/03/15”) and pin the recipes I want to cook to it. Then it’s easy to find what I’ve planned for. I use the Out of Milk app for making my grocery list- I like it because it organizes everything by store section!
Ooh good tips. I’ll have to try that app. And smart to have a new board by week. I need to try that. I’ve never been good about healthy meal planning.
I really need to work on my meal planning. I rarely cook and with my horses having moved, I’ve committed to working at least 3 evenings a week at the barn. So I need to do some crockpot meal planning I think.
I really do like to be organized, but I overwhelm myself by thinking of how organized I like to be and realizing how far I need to go to be organized.
I feel the same way about goals. I think I need to figure out a way to make small steps and not overwhelm myself, as well as be realistic.
Totally understand what you’re saying about being organized. It’s a rabbit hole of crazy haha.
Exactly. 😉
Awwww… I’m so excited for you and baby face! It’ll be a great year!
Don’t forget visit K and Siggy 🙂 We need to help each other be more positive about our progress… that’s on my goals list as well, esp since I have to (get to!!) start over with a new horse
YAS! All of the adventures.
Great goals! The track horse spending one is terrifying! I love that you have keep things fun in there twice. It’s so important to remember that sometimes.
Lots of great goals to make a fab year!
