2016 Q1 Goal Review

I don’t have a set timeline for my 2016 goals except that I would like to accomplish each of the items sometime during this calendar year. Overall I think that we are doing really well. I need to modify the goals a little bit to somehow incorporate Houston but I think I am going to try to take most of April to figure out what that looks like.

For a key… The things that we have succeeded at or at least worked on are bolded. Those things that we failed at or been unable to attempt are striked out

 Me:

  • Riding
    • Take lessons 2x a week ideally (at least 1x/week or 4x/month)
    • Learn how to do hunter braids
    • Jump around 3’6 course confidently
    • Show over 3′ (if a lease is available to do so)
    • Quieter seat and upper body
    • Be more positive about progress
    • Track horse spending (board, farrier, vet, lessons, shopping, etc)
    • HAVE FUN!
  • Personal
    • Workout 2x a week (outside of the saddle)
    • Eat out less /do better at meal planning
    • Lose 20lbs throughout the year (weekly weigh ins – #goalbreeches)
    • Read at least 1 book a month

Overall out of 12 things I would mark success or progress as 50%. I did much better with riding goals than with personal goals. Unfortunately I never broke through the “I hate working out” barrier and while Kyle and I did try HelloFresh we could have been better about eating out. At this point I am not sure I am going to make this a solid goal until we have a house again. We hate the kitchen in our apartment.

  Annie:

  • Teach her leg yields/ shoulder fore
  • Smoother transitions
  • Practice controlled lead changes
  • Jump 2′ courses
  • Go to at least 2 schooling shows
  • Go trail riding off property at least 1x
  • Self load/unload on trailer
  • Tie to trailer
  • Improve Ground Manners
    • Increase patience with farrier
    • Crosstie trustworthiness
  • Keep things fun!

Out of 10 things Annie’s Q1 progress was a mega success. I wouldn’t say that anything has been mastered but we attempted or worked on all but 2 items. We have already gone to 2 schooling shows with the 3rd happening this week. Our 2 trail riding adventures were super fun and I can’t wait to go out again. I hope that we can continue to get Annie more broke on the flat and out on as many adventures as possible!

Hopefully next week I will have some solid goals for Huey!

Have you guys made good progress toward your goals as well?

I’m going to be a good blogger and set some goals for myself as well. I think in terms of goals I’ve subconsciously set for myself, lead changes being number one, we’ve been having great progress with. 😊 Glad to hear Annie is coming along so nicely!
