Annie Update and Inca!

The past couple of weeks have left me with a lot of uncertainty regarding Annie’s future. I wish I could say that I have more clarity now but the only concrete new information we have is a negative EPM result. EPM would have been the icing on her disaster cake so I am very grateful we aren’t dealing with that as well.

After more discussion we decided to go ahead with the dynamic scope (scope during exercise). Given the nature of Annie’s DDSP there is some concern that there are other structures involved that might be contributing to the DDSP. Unfortunately this would mean that tie forward surgery probably wouldn’t be successful. In order to spare Annie from a surgery that might not improve things we really need to do the dynamic scope. With the holidays I couldn’t get Annie an appointment for the scoping until this week though so I have been doing a lot of waiting.

At this point the best case scenario for Annie has her coming back into light work sometime around Mar. I will admit that on top of being really sad about Annie’s situation I was also very disappointed to be out of the saddle yet again. Now I am just hoping that there is a solution to help get Annie right again.

I might have been super upset to leave Nashville but I am really lucky to have great friends already here in Texas too. On top of commiserating with margaritas (this is dangerous with Amanda as I almost bought another horse) and letting me word vomit my feelings I also ended up with something to ride within a week. Just a few days after Annie’s initial diagnosis Amanda’s awesome friend Michelle offered to let me ride her coming 5yo mare as long as I want. Last week we went to go try her and she ended up on a trailer the next day.

With that everyone meet Inca R (Diabolo d’Esquelmes x Lux Z). She is a 2014 model Belgian Sporthorse. I have been spending the past week getting to know this baby dragon and I can’t wait to share more adventures with you guys. I already know she has a lot to teach me.

It doesn’t fix the ache I have surrounding all of the stuff going on with Annie but getting to ride still is definitely good for my soul. Thank you so much Michelle!

Hey, negative EPM is great! Fingers crossed that you get some good answers from the fancy scope too and that surgery is a good option for the redheaded dragon.

And SO exciting about Inca!! She’s gorgeous πŸ˜€

I am glad that the EPM result is negative, but I can’t imagine how frustrating it is to still not have an answer. I hope the scope gives some better answers and in the meantime, Inca looks like a ton of fun. There’s nothing quite like having great friends, especially great horse friends.

Yay for a negative EPM test! At least you’re not dealing with that too. I hope they can fix Annie up for you and get her as good as new (soon). But yay for Inca and awesome friends! That’s so generous, and so wonderful!
