Blog Hop: Favorite Event

Nadia over at 3 Day Adventures started a fun blog hop! She asked what is your favorite event. What a great question and I am really looking forward to seeing the venues everyone shares.

Living in Area 8 and then Area 3 I was able to go to quite a few awesome event venues. I have only been eventing for roughly 6 years. In that time I have evented in five states at numerous facilities. To be honest though I love all of the events I have been to. Compared to the majority of the Hunter Jumper venues that I have experienced I tend to enjoy the events more. I think the majority of that is the people that host and attend but most eventing venues are just flat gorgeous.

I have been to quite a few incredible venues but some really stick out. My first attempt and last completed recognized horse trials were Spring Bay. This horse trial is hosted at the famous Kentucky Horse Park – home of #notrolex and this years AEC’s as well as Masterson Station.

Chatt Hills is another fan favorite with impressive views. An underrated event is Pine Top – I am sad that I only got to compete there once. Other great event venues that I have been lucky enough to experience are Poplar Place in GA and Feather Creek in OK. I would love to get to Feather Creek again sometime now that I am closer being in Area 5.

I think that my favorite event before I moved was probably River Glen though. It is not the fanciest facility but you can’t beat the people. It is one of those places that just has a great feeling. There is always a familiar face and if you can’t find a friend to go with you can make some new ones.

A lot of firsts happened for me at River Glen. I completed my first events on both Houston and Annie there – 3 years apart. It is the first event that I jump judged/ volunteered for. It is even the first event that I ever camped at! Of all of the special places eventing has taken me to River Glen definitely takes the cake.

Honestly, here in Texas, Pine Hill reminds me a lot of River Glen. The owners clearly both love the sport and pour heart and soul into their facilities. Amanda coined it well by saying that it is more of an old school feel. I hope that Pine Hill can be my Texas River Glen. So far it is proving to be just that.

I still have so much of Area 5 to see and can’t wait to experience new events. What are your alls favorite venues? Is it the physical location that makes it or more the feeling you get while there?

Love River Glen! I’ve only been there twice (16 years apart!) and it was the exact same yet different both times 🙂
