Catching Up: May ’21

As promised we will pick up where I left off earlier this week and get to the good stuff.

May was almost as busy as April! To start the month we got to spend a weekend playing in jumper land again. While I do not miss pretty much everything about the HJ world it was a great opportunity for me to get in the ring back to back for more miles on the Lexster before our next attempt at a horse trial. He was the cheekiest of monkeys so I am sure I provided lots of entertainment for everyone watching.

After that we went to Texas Rose and had an absolute blast. We improved on our Holly Hill HT dressage score by 7 points. If I rode more accurate geometry and didn’t have some late transitions we would have been in the 20’s. I haven’t even had a test under 39 in literally 8 years so I was ecstatic. Somehow the photographer didn’t get any dressage pics. This might be the first time in my life I’m actually disappointed by that 😂.

Rider error had us adding 2 rails to our dressage score but Lex was great and I couldn’t wait for XC. After our course walk I was feeling a bit anxious but I really shouldn’t have worried. Lex was a full on beast. It wasn’t perfect but it was the most fun I have had in years. Things finally started to click at this show and it was a great feeling. After XC we moved back up into the ribbons and finished 6th place. Lots of well deserved oatmeal cream pies for Mr. Lex!

After this we took it easy. I had other non horsey things going on (insanity right?) and we were both ready for a couple of easy weeks before getting back out there at a schooling trial in June.
