What’s up with Lex?

Let’s talk about what Lex has been up to. Most of you know he got dropped off for boot camp around Thanksgiving.

I definitely could have continued to ride him on my own. He is not naughty and really tries to be a good boy. Unfortunately I was having a hard time making the progress I wanted to given my access to local trainers. In the end it made the most sense to kick boot camp off early vs just going to FL this spring.

Quality time with his best friend P

Lex is currently still in Texas but closer to the DFW area. He will head to Florida for 6 ish weeks starting in March and I can’t wait. Sadly I will not get to spend any extended time down there with him. Regardless I am looking forward to him getting experience at a higher level with someone (way) more qualified than I am.

So far I can already see a major improvement in his flat work. We all know how that translates over to the jumping! At the beginning of the month MS rode him in a clinic with her trainer Tamie Smith which was pretty cool. I wish I had been able to audit. Tamie was very complimentary of Lex and reiterated that we need to continue working on slowing down his legs so that doesn’t jump over his shoulder occasionally. Overall he has made a lot of progress in the last 8 weeks. I think he will only continue to improve.

Lex’s new address is GRID CITY

I am really lucky to have such a cool guy. As much as I miss him I am grateful that I can send him off at this point in his training. In the long run I know this will pay off for us. Mega bonus is getting to ride a Prelim horse in the meantime and really work on me – more on that later! Lex isn’t gonna know what hit him when he comes home!

Slowing down the hind legs but adding power, also known as the number 1 priority on my daily to-do list. 😂 Why is it so hard?! Love that Lex is still doing great!
