The Name Game

If you have been following the blog for awhile you know that with past horses I tend to stick with the name they came with. Houston B (Huey) and Little Orphan Annex (Annie) kept the names they came with. Okay, technically I dropped the Little from Annie’s Jockey Club name… But you get the idea.

I was very lucky to get to name Luna and her show name is sentimental as we got married in Laguna Beach. When I bought Dobby off the track his JC name was Whiskey Wu… and his barn name was Charlie. I actually like the name Charlie a lot but that’s my nephews name. So, the brainstorm for a new name began. In the end I settled on Dobby for a barn name because he only has one sock – but he’s not a free elf! Then sticking with the Harry Potter theme his show name is Apparition.

You might be wondering where this is going… Lex’s show name is Lex Go. Admittedly I do think this is a super cute name. But do I love it?! I don’t know. I haven’t gotten him nameplates for his halters yet because I am still on the fence. His last owner joked that she wanted to make his show name “Lex Get It On” but her husband vetoe’d it and said THINK OF THE CHILDREN. My response was “at least you didn’t suggest Let’s Talk About Lex”.

The little dude already has some cute nick names such as Lexaroni or Lexarole. The BM at his old barn said they called him that because he is like a little casserole of comfort. HOW FREAKING CUTE?!

With all that out there I want to hear your all’s naming ideas. I am not set on changing his show name (and it would all be properly documented so he could still be searched) but I feel like I will know when I hear it. I will come up with some kind of prize or gift for someone if I end up choosing your name! Maybe a Riding Warehouse or Corro giftcard?

Hit me with your best suggestions! Or maybe stories on how you picked your horses names?

I’m completely not helpful. I don’t change names which is why my boys have their jockey club names, even if Nay’s is ridiculous… If I ever end up showing, he’ll show under his ridiculous name. haha

I do like Lex Go though.

    Lex Go Jumping or
    Lex Go Eventing or
    Lex Go Big.

It’s fine as it is, but it needs a bit more.

    He’s really cute. Congratulations!

I almost never change their names. Bud’s I did because I was 11 when I got him and his name was Bud Light… Apparently, inappropriate. He wound up Just Humour Me.
I really like Lex Go! Especially for an eventer. I think you should just add the exclamation point.
Lex is fun to play with though, it fits into so many scenarios…
    Lex Be Real
    RoLex
    Not RoLex (ha! Sorry.)
    TexLex
    Ok, I’ll stop. They’re all terrible… Haha!

So many fun possibilities with Lex! I only changed Hero’s name (his Jockey Club name is Cool Cotton and he didn’t have a barn name) because Cotton just didn’t seem like him at all, but my other two I’ve kept their names.

    Lexaroni is adorable!
