Lex Go!

I hinted about some more big news last week and now that it is official it is safe to spill the beans.

When I started considering selling Luna I also started looking around to see what was out there for sale. While I was not looking for certain breeding this go around I definitely had a bucket list of traits for any future horse. My wants list was fairly robust for my budget and I figured it would take me 3-6 months to find something that I liked in my budget, whether that be stateside or imported, so why not start looking now. It’s just looking… right?

just looking…

If you have been reading this blog for awhile (or were here at least when I found Dobby) you know I can be kinda intense when I’m trying to find something. It’s safe to say things escalated rather quickly.

I ended up in conversation with a wonderful broker in the UK who said “I actually just sold the perfect horse for you to so and so in the US”. So me being me I asked for videos as a comparison for what her idea of what I said I wanted looked like. Um! She was not kidding. The horse was my dream horse on paper just a couple years younger than my ideal. But no horse is truly perfect! Going into the search (that was not really supposed to be a search) I knew it was unlikely that I would find a horse inside all of my ideal requirements and was prepared to be flexible in some areas.

After watching the videos I decided to look up his new stateside owner. When I found out she was a pro and saw that she had another horse for sale but no mentions of Lex being for sale I was bummed but still reached out. The other horse sounded really awesome but then she said “I also have a 15.2h Dutch WB…” and that my friends is where sh*t got real. At this point I have already fallen in love with the horse or imprinted on him as my friend Carie coined it… and his owner, N, tells me he’s actually for sale.

I naturally started sending ET (eventing trainer) pictures… and videos… as well as basically planning our future together. Please see above where I mentioned I am a creepy stalker. Given that he is a literal unicorn I shouldn’t have been surprised when she said “you need that pony!”.

With ET’s blessing I continued to do a little more research. Let’s just say his last owner is a saint… N was so incredibly patient with me. She answered all of my questions, provided tons of pics and videos, and generally was amazing to work with. I didn’t initially think that I would be able to make things work out as I sold Luna for less than I expected to (but to the best home ever so it was totally worth it). I let N know and said I would reach out when things were final with Luna with my best offer.

Thankfully with Kyle’s help we were able to make things work and I am now the proud owner of a small but mighty hony! When the commercial hauler didn’t think they could get him to me before Feb 1st I decided to get him myself. And that is how I ended up spending this past weekend driving ALL OVER THE PLACE. Almost 2,000 miles and 5 states later the cutest little biscuit safely made it back to Texas!

I will share more pictures and videos this week but it is safe to say I already love the little guy. He can be a cheeky bastard but he is MY cheeky little bastard and I feel so lucky to have him. There will definitely be a learning curve as he is very different from every horse I have owned in the past but I can’t wait! Here’s to an exciting start to 2021 and a really exciting new partnership.

To everyone that helped make this possible – you all rock! I really couldn’t have done this without you. It truly takes a village and I am so lucky to have you all surrounding me.
